Two Years as a Mommy

My life changed in so many ways two years ago.

After a fast labor and delivery, I sat in bed with a tiny person on my chest and I fell in love - nothing else mattered. I didn't care that I wasn't wearing make-up or that my hair was a mess. I forgot that a few minutes prior the contractions made me feel like I was being hit by a train again and again...

I held my daughter against my skin and I would not trade that moment for anything else in this world.

Two years later and that tiny person is bigger, full of spunk and no longer likes to sit still for more than 2 seconds. And I love her just the same. Every day that I get to spend with her is a precious gift.

I cannot imagine life without Sariah Faith and I so look forward to the adventures ahead! I cannot believe my tiny baby is now a two year old little girl.

Sariah and I - 30 minutes after she was born.

A Year Older

Yesterday was my birthday and I can now say that I am 26 years old!
OK, I know this is going to sound silly…but 26 sounds really old to me. When other people turn 26, I don’t think that they are really old. My grandma is in her 70s and I don’t think that sounds really old. But being 26 sounds old to me because I am 26. Does that make sense? No? Sorry for being confusing…

To tell you the truth I still kind of felt like I was 17 until recently. I felt like a teenager in some ways and I liked feeling that way. Over the past few years (especially in 2011) I started feeling like a grown up.

It may have started when I got married…and then I finished school…started a new job…paid off debt…watched friends get married…babysat friend’s babies…started a photography business…moved to a new city…

Somewhere in the middle of all those life events I realized that I no longer felt like I was 17. Reality hit and it became very obvious that I am an adult.

So, as a 26 year old (adult) I will tell you that despite no longer feeling as young as I used to be, I had a great birthday! It started by being with family over Christmas and New Years. I enjoyed being with the people I love, opening gifts that are SO me and eating yummy meals in the spirit of celebration!

Yesterday, on my actual birthday, I got to wake up next to my beloved…who planned a surprise gift! He sent me a few emails during the day with little hints and told me to be ready by 4:30. I was so excited I could have been ready at noon.

He picked me up when he said he would and took me to get my very first professional massage!!! It was great and relaxing and great.

We had seafood for dinner (because all I wanted was to have seafood) and spent the rest of the night together. I felt so blessed.

It was truly a wonderful day!

I am so thankful for family and friends who made me feel so loved and cared for! I am so thankful for a Savior who has given me one more year of precious life! May my 26th year of life bring glory to the one who knit me together in my mother's womb and breathed life into my veins!!!

Happy Birthday to my John

Dear John,
I am so glad I get to celebrate every day of life with you!

I look forward to celebrating many more days together.

"There's a place I go
where it is safe to be myself...

There's a place I go where laughter and tears,
hopes and fears
flow freely...

There's a place I go
where truth is spoken
and dreams are shared...

It's a place
of acceptance and understanding,
honesty and love...

It's a place called friendship
and whenever I'm with you,
I'm there."

Happy Birthday

A Year Older

Celebrating a birthday as a working grown up is quite…different. Like any other day, I woke up (too early for my liking) got dressed, drank chocolate milk, got my lunch and left our cold home to an even colder car. However, today I got to face traffic with a friend sitting next to me!

My friend Erin was in town and it was so good to see her. Her presence alone was a great birthday gift.

As I walked into the office, everything looked exactly how it all looked when I left it on Thursday night. I spent the day reading and researching. The sky was blue and the sun was out. That too was a birthday gift.

I came home to my John, feeling somewhat like my birthday was already over – and then I remembered something. I remembered that I had not thanked my creator for giving me life. Abundant life.

He has given me more than I could ever ask for and every day is a gift.

I am thankful for a God who gives me beyond what I could ask or imagine. A God who fills my life with joy and shows me the way I should go. A God who loves me when I seek Him and calls my name when I turn away from him. A God who has showered me with blessings.

May my life bring glory and honor to him!

Happy Birthday Friend

In the journey of life, we all need community. We all need a friend.
Some of those friends come and go. But some find a special place in your heart.
A place that could not be filled by any other person.

Camille is that kind of friend.
My heart has a special place for her that no one will ever be able to occupy.

She knows how to encourage me.
She speaks the truth even when I don't want to hear it.
She points me back to God.

"As iron sharpens iron,
so one man sharpens another."
Proverbs 27:17

May we always sharpen each other with the love of Christ.

Happy Birthday Camille!

One More Year of Life

Today is John's birthday and I am so glad I get to celebrate it with him!
He is a gift and a blessing.

"Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
For I am the LORD, your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior."
Isaiah 43:1-3

My dear, I pray that the Lord will continue to guide your path
and that your heart will remain ever so obedient to follow the Lord your God!

P.S. I hope you are ready for some surprises!

Celebrating Life

This past weekend John and I had lots of fun celebrating a dear friend's birthday. First we went to a Whirly Ball place and ended the night with an epic dinner at Buca di Beppo.

It was a great day!

We are truly thankful to have Steve in our lives and we look forward to celebrating many years together.

Happy Birthday to the Blog

A year ago I created this blog!

Here is my very first post.

To tell you the truth, I can hardly believe that a whole year has gone by. Where was I when that happened?
A year ago I had no idea where life was going to take me – and I still have no clue.

But as clueless as I may be, I am thankful that I made the decision to put into writing and photographs some of my best and worst moments.

It is fun to go back and read some of my thoughts and lessons learned. It is a blessing to read comments from others that are encouraged by what I write.

I am looking forward to the year to come!

P.S. Have a great weekend…wherever you are!

Ready or Not, It's 2010

I haven’t blogged in a while, and that is because I was having too much fun with lovely family and friends.

However, the fun seems to be over, or that is how I feel.

On January 2nd I came back home from a great New Year party – and I got sick with a cold, soar throat, runny nose, fever and headache. On January 3rd I celebrated the morning of my birthday in bed, while having a really hard time breathing. I am VERY thankful for my family and wonderful husband for attempting to make that day a special one anyways. I managed to have lunch with my family and opened great presents!!!

I AM SO BLESSED!

This week has been somewhat of a rollercoaster and I have been very discouraged at times (especially last night). I had applied to this wonderful job that I was super excited about, only to receive an email from the organization letting me know that they are pursuing other candidates.

Boo to them.

That kind of rejection has brought me many tears in the past couple of months and I am getting tired of it all. I find myself praying and asking God for direction and although I know He is listening I don’t always hear His voice.

These waves of emotions have been overwhelming, but I read some words from Pastor James MacDonald that really helped me this morning.

He wrote:

“Strength in Weakness

"Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you." - 1 Peter 5:5-7

How do people do it? How do they withstand the Katrina-like blows that pummel their lives? The wind, the waves, the surges of heartbreak one after another. How do they survive... and still lift their faces to the Lord? How can they be so strong at their extreme weakest?

Today was an awful day. Some very heavy things hit me off guard. But somewhere in the middle of that storm, God's voice was telling me that He provides sufficient grace for this trial, and when I am weak He is always and still very strong. So I want to say to the glory of God that if there is anything in this ministry that is powerful, it is from weakness. Trust me on that.

"Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me... For when I am weak, then I am strong" (2 Corinthians 12:9-10). Well, here I am - present and accounted for. It's the hard times and the unhealthy times and the hurting times that reveal my weaknesses. And it's also during those times that God shows up strong.

We often treat suffering like a dodgeball game. Anytime anything painful comes at us, we jump out of the way. We spend our whole lives trying to avoid anything that will hurt or be hard. But there's a better kind of life - a deeper, more fulfilling kind of life - that isn't about avoiding every pain. It's about finding God faithful and powerful in the midst of whatever thorns He allows.

There's something about our weakness that opens the flow of God's strength.

When you are in the midst of a trial, there's a power coming into your life that you've never experienced before. When you see a hard thing coming, try saying, "I may not want this, but I know I'm going to see Christ working in my life in an incredible way."

God never allows a thorn but that He provides sufficient grace and strength in our weaknesses. Sufficient grace is not just enough to survive, but enough to have supernatural joy in the midst of anything He allows us to go through.”

As hard as it might be, I want to have that supernatural joy. I want to be faithful when the circumstances are not optimal. I want to praise God and remember the ways He continues to bless me. I want to be near Him.

Happy Birthday to My Love

My beloved husband is turning a year older today.

Happy Birthday to John!!

Just playing around, I usually ask him if he feels like an old man yet. He ALWAYS responds by saying that he is not old and reminds me that I am not old either. I am convinced he will be saying that when we are in our 90s.

I know that in reality, we are not old (yet) but time travels so fast that I can hardly keep track of the date these days. Three years ago I got to celebrate John's birthday for the first time - we were just friends at that point - and I can't believe we are now married.

Three years ago I gave John two Alaska pictures framed and singed by me - with my maiden last name.

Isn't Alaska just gorgeous?
I am sure I would never get tired of looking at these mountains.

Today, these pictures hang in our bedroom as a reminder of the place that brought us together in first place!

**In 2006, John and I signed up to be camp counselors in Alaska through the University Presbyterian Church. We started dating about 6 months later.

Since those camp days, I have become John's greatest fan and I thank God daily for giving me such a wonderful man.

Here are a list of characteristics that makes John be the unique person that he is - and I just love him for these qualities!

  • He hugs with his body - this is no awkward side hug - this is a full embrace that demonstrates he cares
  • His organization skills are so helpful!
  • He loves God and desires to know Him more
  • He has a giggle that melts my heart
  • He is devoted to family and friends
  • He can be brutally honest
  • He is always learning something new
  • He is himself no matter what

I am thrilled to celebrate one more year of life with John, and I pray for many more!

Happy Birthday to My Sister

God sure knew what he was doing when he gave me Deborah as a sister. Very few people on this earth knows me as well as she does. She understands my moods (sometimes not even I understand myself), she can hear my words behind every glance, grunt and facial expression. It is not rare for us to be thinking about the same thing at the exactly same time, or even randomly start singing the same part of the same song at the same time.

Maybe we were supposed to be twins.

This beloved sister of mine is turning 21 today and I am so proud of the person she is. I love her bluntness, her silliness, her desire to know God more and her love for family.

I have been blessed to share millions of memories with her and I pray that there are many more to come.

Happy Birthday to Deborah!
